Similarly,thetwonarrowenergybeamsseeninthegammarayburstposterreflecthowtheyoccurinreallife,travelinginoppositedirectionsfromthecollidingstellarcorpses.Theburstsaresointensethatifsuchaneventoccurred"close"totheEarth,causingabeamtofiredirectlyatourplanet,thebeamofradiationandparticlescoulddoharm.Buttherarityoftheseeventsmakesthatextremelyunlikely,accordingJudyRacusin,anastrophysicistatNASAsGoddardSpaceFlightCenterwhoalsoconsultedontheposters.Infact,astronomersestimatethatagammarayburstgoesoffinourgalaxyonlyaboutonceevery10,000years,buttheyareonlyvisibletousaboutevery10,000,000to100,000,000years.Eventhen,oneoftheseeventswouldntnecessarilyposeathreattoourplanet.

尽管这三张海报都很有趣，也很有创意，但它们都是基于真实现象制作的 。在一个死星系中，新恒星的诞生已经停止，剩下的大多数恒星都是长寿命的恒星，它们又小又红，使星系发出深红色的光芒 。类似地，当死星碰撞时，它们有时会产生伽马射线爆发，或宇宙中最明亮的爆炸 。虽然暗物质听起来像是出自万圣节故事，但它的引力将恒星保持在星系内，并将星系团聚集在一起——然而科学家不知道这种无形的物质是由什么组成的 。
