以后再说 add oil 就再也不用担心会被说是中式英语啦~
那么问题来了，要是真的要说“加油”应该怎么说呢？
吉米老师觉得，炒菜的时候，想往锅里加点油，倒是能说 add oil 。但是如果是去加油站加油呢？
这可就不能说 add oil 了，因为在加油站说 oil 一般会被理解成“机油、润滑油” 。
而家用汽车加的油，一般是汽油。
那“汽油”用英语怎么说呢？吉米老师教大家一个超简单的单词：
“汽油” 不是 oil 是啥？

汽油
“汽油”在美式英语中是 gas ，而在英式英语中是 petrol 。
“加油站”就是 gas station 或者 petrol station 。具体用 gas 还是 petrol ，要看到底是美式英语还是英式英语~

汽油不多
be low on something 这个短语表示“短缺的、将耗尽的” ， be low on gas 意思就是“汽油不多了、要用完了” 。
We are low on gas.
我们的汽油要用完了。
run out of gaspetrol
用光汽油
run out of something 表示“用完、耗尽” 。
“快要用完了”就可以说 be running out of ，相当于 be low on 。
I wanted to drive, but I ran out of gas.
我本来想开车，但是我的车没油了。

“加油” 不是 add gas

gas 是“汽油” ，但“加油”不能说 add gas ，而要说 gas up 。

fill up 表示“使充满、使装满”的意思， “装满某物”就是 fill up with something 。
“给车加满油”可以说 fill up the car 也可以说 fill up with gas.
