目前发现的最古老的人类城市就在土耳其，它叫恰塔霍裕克 ?atalh?yük
有迹象表明公元前7世纪就有人类居住于此。
而且，像这样的重大考古遗址在土耳其有非常多，并且还在不断被发掘，每年至少有150场考古挖掘活动正在进行。
1994年在土耳其哥贝克力石阵发现的石头表明，哥贝克力石阵是世界上第一座庙宇，也是迄今为止发现的最重要的考古遗址之一。据碳定年法（根据测定古物不同形态的碳含量以计算年代）显示，这45块石头可能已有13000年的历史了。鉴于巨石阵是在2000到3000年前建造的，而吉萨金字塔是在2500年前建造的，这使它以惊人的优势成为最古老的遗址。

The stones found at G?bekli Tepe in Turkey in 1994 mark it as the world’s first temple and one of the most important archaeological sites ever discovered. Carbon dating shows the 45 stones may be as old as 13,000 years old—which makes it the oldest site by an amazing margin, considering Stonehenge was built around 2,000 to 3,000 years ago and the pyramids of Giza 2,500 years ago.

And he’s not the only saint with connections to Turkey — the Virgin Mary’s resting place could be near Ephesus, while Saint Paul was from Tarsus in the south.
